The technological revolution that is the World Wide Web has opened us all up for new online business, but here at The Postcard Company we are still happily surprised by the high percentage of customers who find us by good old fashion word of mouth.

The Victorian Internet
The Postcard Company has just celebrated its 10th anniversary on the Internet. You might even say that the combination of the 140 year old 6x4 postcards - the main product produced by The Postcard Company - and new technology has been a very happy marriage.

In Victorian times when the postcard was first used in the United
Kingdom and Ireland it led to five posts being delivered in a single day - the 19th Century equivalent of email. With so many deliveries in a single day people could arrange meetings, re-arrange and even cancel meetings all in a single day just by scribbling out postcards to each other.

Email of course has made history of that sort of service, but the
postcard has adapted and survived. Today it remains the most cost
effective, colourful and uniquely personal way of promoting and
advertising products or services.

Cards of the Month
Several interesting postcard promotions by our customers have caught our eye in the past few weeks. Apart from the surprising Greetings Cards for Easter and even Christmas 2007, we have seen orders that cover the spectrum: from sepia toned vintage photographs from city archives across the UK and Ireland, to wonderful modern day photographs devoted to capturing sights that only the 'extreme tourist' hunts down.

From the sepia toned school of photography there are a stunning set of 19th Century photographs including potato planters, herring packers and Shetland ponies. The cards are being produced by Aberdeen City Library to mark the Year of Highland Culture 2007.

And staying with nostalgia there are the vaudeville postcards from
Badger Press that celebrate the theatre posters of great names from the past like Rosemary Clooney and Frankie Vaughan.

At the other 'extreme' are the Green Turtles of Ascension Island, in the South Atlantic Ocean, brilliantly celebrated in a set of photographic prints by N. J. Hobson.
